I Couldn’t Wait to Write About a Successful Therapy Story

Anyone else imagine how an experience will be portrayed in a Medium article before the experience actually happens?

It’s not a healthy practice to build something up before it actually happens, but I am always on the lookout for article ideas. Especially since I’ve been pretty quiet on here lately.

I was going to write how even though I belong to demographics that are more likely to receive mental health treatment and have friends who all openly talk about and praise going to therapy, I hadn’t really gone much at all, due to a mix of prior stigma, a discovery that the Peace Corps automatically doesn’t accept anyone with even a slight history of poor mental health, the pandemic, my own finances, and hatred of navigating the American healthcare system.

But, I imagined my article saying, it all changed when I finally started therapy. I’d wrap the story up with a nice little bow. Now I had better coping strategies for managing my anxiety! I’m glad I finally took the leap to invest in myself.

I was a little hesitant to spend what amounts to a decent shift’s tips for just a half-hour of therapy, but I told myself I had to try it, that being an adult meant addressing personal issues and prioritizing…
